Research and Planning: Contents Page Draft

This draft will help me a lot when making magazines as I know have all the stories set out and placement of things. I think it is a full contents page which fits the genre of a pop magazine as the colours I will use will be the same as the front cover and I have also added pictures which will stop it from getting boring. I also think it looks well made as it follows the same house style as the cover which will help the reader see a continuous theme with the magazine and will be able to recognise it in a shop. I also think using, "Inside the mag," as a masthead instead of the typical' "Contents,"  as I think it makes it look different and gives it a little more originality.

Research and Planning: Cover Draft

On my cover draft I have added lots of pictures of celebrities as I think in a pop magazine that's what will grab the readers attention as they will see their favourite artists and want to read more about them inside. For now I think the cover is full as I don't know how the size of the pictures will vary when I continue to make the magazine so I will possibly add more cover lines and pictures to fill up any initial space. My magazine will follow three main colours which will be a light pink, purple and white as I think they will contrast each other nicely while still looking girly which is the stereotypical gender that will be reading my magazine. I also think the colours are good as they won't distract from the pictures and cover lines.

Research and Planning: Progress Post

This is the beginning cover page for my music magazine. I chose the background colour as a light pink as I think it is feminine without looking too unprofessional and eye-catching as that would take the attention off the masthead and pictures. At the moment I like the masthead style and colour, however I think that after further progress I may make a decision to alter the font style as I think it could end up looking to babyish and would look odd with the pictures and cover lines that I will be putting on.

Research and Planning: Double page spread draft

On all the text on this spread I will use the sans font as it will make all the writing a lot clearer.
-The picture on the left will be a long shot to show the mise en scene of the picture.
 - I also take an extreme close up of a perfume bottle in a clean enviroment such as a perfume shop to give the impression that it is the bands new brand.

Research and Planning: Discussion on Location Recce

I have just had a discussion with my tutor about when I could use the balcony that our college so I can experience a different Mise en Scene as I think it has great natural lighting and a good view.

She informed me for health and safety reason we will need to go as a group on a specific day with a teacher present.

Research and Planning: 5 Double Page Spreads Analysis

All of these magazines have a similar colour scheme in common of white, pink and orange colours which are resembling the artists in the magazine. I noticed that when the artists were attracted the main quote that was shown was about dating for example the Justin Bieber spread.

They also have a large picture that covers one side of the magazine. This in my opinion resembles the  artists. For example Cher looks quite cheeky in her and Taylor looks rather sweet which reflects the artists persona. In my magazine I will have the band (Will, Adam and Callum," looking very close and cheeky which is what I think the audience will want to see.

The majority of the double-page spread was also filled with an interview. Which was both personal and asked about the career of the artists. So on my magazine I will make sure to have an interview with questions on both the career of the artist and their social life.

The shots are either long shots when the artist are wearing outfits that may represent themselves such as Cher, where as some more serious artists who sing about serious things such as Jessie J, the shot is a close up. As the band featuring in my magazine are quite fun and lighthearted I will take a picture of them in a long shot which will make it easier for me to show their relationship and personalities.

Research and Planning: Serif/ Sans Serif

Serifs are the small lines tailing from the edges of letters and symbols.Serif fonts are easier to read in printed works. This is because the serif make the individual letters more distinctive and easier for out brains to recognise quickly. Without the serif, the letters are harder to read as the shape is less distinctive. For all the writing on my double-page spread as the writing will be a lot more easier to read. Especially as my magazine is a pop magazine so younger people who may be reading it need the letters to be more easy to read.

Research and Planning: SLR Test Shots

This picture was taken with a flash indoors. I chose to take this picture to show how something like this could be put in my magazine to help the audience browse new products that the magazine could be advertising. It could also be a piece of jewellery that a celebrity could have been photographed with.
This is used with the detail setting which i think shows it in a lot better quality so if I was to use it in my magazine I would use this setting.
This picture was taken to show a long shot. This is used with a flash which is good as it makes the place look brighter and less dull.
This is used with the landscape setting which is better as it makes everything look a lot more crisp and clean.
This is a test shot close up of Rebecca with and without flash. I think using flash makes the indoor picture a lot better quality. Rebecca will not be used in my magazine because i think she looks to punk for my pop magazine and wouldn't really fit with the other people that will be in it.

These test shots are of an extreme close up. This one is used with a detail setting and the other is used without. I think that the natural lighting is a lot better than the indoor with a flash because i think it looks a lot nicer. The detail setting also is a lot better than the normal.

This is a medium close up of Mo. He will not be used it my magazine because he will not be available on the day of the shoot.
These are long shots from outside to show the different lighting from outside and inside. I think that outside again has a lot nicer lighting and looks more professional rather than indoor with a flash on. I also used the landscape setting on the first one which I think made it a lot more crisp.

Research and Planning: Publication plan

Name: Chixz as stereotypically young girls will be reading my magazine and I think the title fits that age group
Price: £2.40 because my interviews told me that the prices shouldn't be too high as the age group that would be buying it will most likely not have an income
Positioning Statement:-
Distrubution: In all magazine/everyday shops so young girls and boys can find them in a variety of places and as it is coming out monthly they will know where to find it.
Frequency of Publication: New issue every month as i think that every week is to often as parents may get sick of paying but every month is the right amount
Rationale: To inform young teenagers of the music industry of pop
Style/Layout/Colour: Packed with images, bold with losts of bubble writing
Regular content: Products of the month
Feautred Content: -

Research and Planning: Band Hair and Clothing

From these pictures i understood that most boys in bands have similar hairstyles. I also noticed that in photo shoots the clothes are all pretty similar with the same colours but different variations to show off the artists different style preference. They all have pretty tanned faces so I will have to put make up on my models to darken their faces and bronzer to enhance features.
